The HarpersGangs article was referenced by Bourgois in his book, its all about situating gang violence in historical civil war context, seeing the continuities between then and now, understanding the root causes e.g. structural poverty. Also writes about US involvement in the civil war and since - the export of gangs and gang culture from LA to El Salvador. There is a little on impact of neo-lib economic model, and also on understanding individual motivations for violence. its interesting.

The Pearce and Robinson articles....I would be lying if I said I had read entirely....but they look interesting, particularly in relation to Globalisation, Neo-Lib economics and 'Peace'building.
